Trois-Rivières

Marked with History and Culture

Trois-Rivières was founded in 1634 by Laviolette, who later gave his name to the bridge that crosses the St. Lawrence River in front of the city. Laviolette gave the city its name because of the two channels formed at the mouth of the Saint-Maurice River, which looked like three different rivers.

This city was at first a trading post for fur traders. Pulp and paper industries then settled in the city, which allowed Trois-Rivières to become more important in the economical development of the province. Nowadays, Trois-Rivières is a charming city, with its old city that you can visit by following different themed circuits or by reading the interpretation panels. Downtown Trois-Rivières is always lively with jugglers, magicians and musicians.

Its cafés, boutiques and restaurants will surely charm you with their terraces. Numerous festivals and events take place in the city, of which some are internationally renowned, like the Festival Western de Saint-Tite that draws crowds from everywhere in the world each year. Take the time to discover this modern city with a charm of yesteryear.
